Regional fiber internet provider United Communications marked its expansion into Huntsville on Tuesday, July 28, with a Huntsville/Madison County Chamber-hosted ribbon-cutting ceremony, according to a company release provided to Broadband Communities.
Operating since 1947, the Middle Tennessee provider says they’re now targeting North Alabama growth through their Communities division, along with through partnerships with local developers and builders.
“North Alabama is growing rapidly, and reliable internet infrastructure will play an important role in supporting that growth,” said Ray Baker, the manager of United Communications’ Communities division. “United has been just up the road for generations. We know this region, and we’re excited to build lasting relationships with Huntsville-area partners and bring the same reliable fiber, responsive service, and local accountability our customers expect from us.”
Also commenting in the release was Kristin Jackson, the CFO of United Communications.
“As a UAH graduate, Huntsville is a place I know well and care about personally,” Jackson said. “It has been exciting to watch the city grow while maintaining the collaborative spirit that makes it special. I’m proud to see United become more involved here, and I look forward to the relationships we’ll build across North Alabama.”
United currently delivers multi-gig fiber internet to over 130,000 customers, the company said.
