LiveOak Fiber starts network construction in Bluffton, South Carolina
Construction is underway on a fiber network that will extend access to over 10,000 homes and businesses in Bluffton, South Carolina, LiveOak Fiber announced Thursday.
Bluffton, located near Hilton Head Island, has been served by a single dominant provider for years, LiveOak’s release said.
As such, Bluffton Mayor Larry Toomer said LiveOak’s entrance to Bluffton is a welcomed sight.
“As a third-generation Blufftonian, I have watched this town grow from the community I knew as a child, including going to first grade in what is now Town Hall, into one of the fastest-growing places in our region,” said Toomer. “With that growth comes the responsibility to manage what we have well and make sure our residents, families and small businesses have choices. LiveOak Fiber’s investment gives our community another option for reliable connectivity, and competition helps raise the standard for everyone.”
LiveOak said they expect their first Bluffton customers to be brought online by early 2027.

City of Amsterdam to join GoNetspeed’s New York network
A privately funded investment worth $10 million will fund GoNetspeed’s expansion into Amsterdam, New York.
The expansion, announced Wednesday, “will bring symmetrical, multigigabit internet speeds of up to 6 Gbps to more than 8,700 homes and businesses,” the ISP said.
Construction on the network will begin this winter, GoNetspeed said.
Michael Cinquanti, Amsterdam’s mayor, had comments included with the ISP’s release.
“Amsterdam continues to seek strong partners who can strengthen our infrastructure, provide viable service and support options for our residents and local businesses, and create new opportunities,” Cinquanti said.
Amsterdam is located in Montgomery County along the Mohawk River and had a population of over 18,000 in 2020, according to U.S. Census records.

Keith Taub appointed as CEO of Archtop Fiber
Jeff DeMond, the founder of New York-based Archtop Fiber, will be moving on from the CEO role to serve as the company’s executive chairman, the ISP announced Sept. 8.
In his place, Archtop’s COO and CFO, Keith Taub, will be elevated to the CEO position.
Taub said he will be honored to build upon the foundation laid by DeMond.
“Archtop has a talented team, a strong culture, and tremendous opportunities ahead,” Taub said. “I look forward to continuing to execute on our strategy and delivering exceptional service to our customers and communities.”

Wire 3 reaches halfway point for Palm Bay fiber build
Daytona Beach-based Wire 3 says work on its fully funded $100 million fiber network build has surpassed 50 percent completion and continues to progress rapidly.
“Though we’re making progress each day, our work is far from over, and we will continue to grow with the needs and demands of the community as technology continues to evolve and reach new limits,” said Jai Ramachandran, Wire 3 CEO. We’re Floridians powering Floridians, and we’re eager to see how life continues to transform in Palm Bay.”
Wire 3 says they expect construction in Palm Bay to be completed by winter 2027.

GoNetspeed announces $8 million expansion into Carteret, NJ
A fully funded $8 million investment will extend GoNetspeed’s fiber-optic network into Carteret, a borough in New Jersey.
The ISP says the expansion will deliver symmetrical internet speeds of up to 6 Gbps to more than 6,300 homes and businesses.
GoNetspeed expects construction on the network to begin in the spring of 2027.
“Strong communities are built on strong infrastructure, and reliable fiber internet has become an essential part of that foundation,” said Richard Clark, GoNetspeed president and CEO.
The announcement is the latest momentum for GoNetspeed, which just last month celebrated the addition of Norwich, New York to their footprint.

TDS Telecom wraps up acquisition of Granite State Communications
TDS Telecom says they’ve completed their acquisition of Granite State Communications’ fiber optic and voice operations.
The purchase agreement was first announced in April.
TDS Telecom is already well familiar with New Hampshire. The company has operated in the state since 1970 and already owns five telephone companies there.
The deal increases the footprint of TDS Telecom by 11,000 fiber service addresses in New Hampshire.
“Granite State customers will not see any immediate change in services, and no action is required on their part,” TDS Telecom announced Sept. 1.
