Thousands of locations in a York County, Pennsylvania community will benefit from a new fiber-optic network after an expansion project is completed by the end of 2025.

Engineering work has begun on a fiber-optic network expansion planned for Springettesbury Township, which will bring a future-proof fiber-optic network to over 7,500 homes and businesses in the community, according to the provider behind the project.

Glo Fiber, which provides fiber-to-the-home broadband service, utilizes a 9,300 mile network owned and operated by Shentel, also known as the Shenandoah Telecommunications Company, according to GloFiber’s most recent announcement.

Mark Hodgkinson, the manager of Springettsbury Township, said the township welcomes GloFiber’s services to the community. His comments were provided in GloFiber’s Jan. 10 announcement about the efforts in Springettsbury Township.

“Their high-speed internet, television programming, and telephone services will provide our residents with additional options to meet their needs,” he said.

Chris Kyle, a vice president at Shentel, said his firm is excited to be entering another York County community.

“We continue to execute our growth plan across our entire footprint and specifically here in York County,” he said. “Residents and businesses have long asked for a competitive choice for their internet, TV, and phone services, and we are thrilled to now offer Springettsbury that choice.”

Construction on the project is expected to begin in 2025, the company’s announcement said.

Earlier this month, Glo Fiber and Shentel announced the first customers in Spring Garden Township, a rural community in York County, are now enjoying access thanks to recent network expansion efforts.

As construction on the network continues, Glo Fiber said residents and businesses will receive advanced notice via mail of their pending internet access options, according to a recent announcement from the company.
