PETALUMA, CA – La Jicarita Rural Telephone Cooperative selected the Calix Unified Access portfolio to bring advanced broadband services to its subscribers in northeastern New Mexico. La Jicarita will use an $11.9 million broadband stimulus award – an $8.3 million grant and a $3.6 million loan – to offer services up to 1 Gbps in Mora, N.M., and the surrounding area. Its network will use active Ethernet technology delivered by Calix’s E7 Ethernet Service Access Platform and 700GE family of ONTs. 10GE transport technology will connect this network with other La Jicarita facilities. Approximately 3,000 people, 40 businesses and eight community institutions stand to benefit from this broadband project.

La Jicarita also plans to deploy the E7 platform and 700GE ONTs for a second, non-stimulus-funded build-out in its exchange in Wagon Mound, N.M.

“Advanced broadband services are critical to the quality of life and economic development of the rural communities that we serve. … We expect these projects to be truly transformative to each of these communities,” says Danny Gray, manager at La Jicarita.
