Rural community health support, workforce services, and digital skills training are only some of the focuses for a series of facilities nearing completion across Louisiana, all made possible by the state’s GUMBO 1.0 program and enabled by broadband.

Louisiana’s state broadband office — ConnectLA — announced the update November 2, which included details about the seven facilities.

The list includes facilities like the Bastion Community of Resilience Veterans Wellness Center, which will connect veterans in Orleans Parish to workforce support, education, and health services, according to ConnectLA.

Emmy Hicks, the director of data strategy and rural initiatives for ConnectLA, said rural investment like this is critical to building a stronger future for Louisianians.

“Building dedicated centers with programs designed to build digital skills that target workforce readiness, health services, and education will connect communities to resources necessary not just to survive, but to thrive,” said Hicks. “The opportunity to build physical spaces where every Louisiana resident can have access to essential services that will improve their quality of life has been both personally and professionally fulfilling.”

A few of the other facilities nearing completion included the Crowville Community Center, which will serve as a community hub for health, education, and workforce resources for Franklin Parish and surrounding areas. Additionally, the City of Opelousas Community Center will bring workforce training, education, and health services to Opelousas and surrounding St. Landry Parish, just to name a few.
