A total of 18 broadband projects across the state of Idaho will benefit from $120 million in funding recently awarded by the Idaho Broadband Advisory Board.

Over 30,000 homes and businesses will be connected to high-speed broadband when a slate of projects across the state are completed, according to the Idaho Broadband Advisory Board.

The board awarded $120 million from the state’s Capital Projects Fund to help finance 18 projects across the state, according to the board’s Dec. 7 announcement.

The projects include efforts like the Latah County Dark Fiber Network, spearheaded by Latah County, which received more than $15 million, making it stand out as the project that received the most funding in the board’s Dec. 7 announcement, according to information provided by the Idaho Broadband Advisory Board.

Other projects to receive significant funding include more than $13 million for Madison County’s FyberCom Fiber Initiative, more than $11.5 million for Idaho County’s Orofino to Grangeville Fiber Optic Conduit Project, and $10.8 million for Jerome County’s fiber-to-the-home and fixed wireless access project, documents from the Idaho Broadband Advisory Board revealed.

“These grants are the culmination of months working together and engaging stakeholders, local communities and internet providers all across the State,” Idaho Broadband Program Manager Ramón Hobdey-Sánchez said. “I couldn’t be prouder of the hard work and dedication my colleagues exemplified throughout this entire grant process and the impact they have all had on improving internet access for Idahoans.”

Representative John Vander Woude, the chair of Idaho’s broadband advisory board, said the projects that received money will connect homes and businesses across the state.

“These awarded projects are another important step in furthering the Idaho Broadband Advisory Board’s mission of ensuring that all Idahoans have access to affordable and reliable internet,” he said.
