August 12, 2026 — Engineering and infrastructure firm Black & Veatch announced Wednesday the completion of Grain Management’s acquisition of T-Mobile’s nationwide 800 MHz spectrum portfolio.
Black & Veatch, which acts as Grain Management’s exclusive sales agent for utility spectrum transactions, said the deal allows U.S. electric and water utilities to immediately acquire licensed spectrum to build private LTE and 5G wireless networks.
Grain Management plans to make the low-band 800 MHz Band 26 spectrum available to utilities, enterprise customers, and direct-to-device satellite providers. With up to 14 MHz of bandwidth available across most U.S. markets, the spectrum offers propagation characteristics ideal for grid modernization, cybersecurity, and emergency response infrastructure, according to Black & Veatch’s August 12 release.
The transaction previously received approval from the Federal Communications Commission. Black & Veatch will continue serving as an advisor and implementation partner for utilities deploying private wireless infrastructure, the company said.
