ZiTEL, a Virginia ISP, will complete the remaining scope of the West Broadband Project in several Virginia counties.

Moneta, Virginia-based internet provider ZiTEL has signed an agreement to take over a major regional broadband expansion across Franklin, Henry, and Patrick counties in Virginia.
The West Piedmont Planning District Commission announced last Wednesday that ZiTEL will complete the remaining scope of the West Broadband Project, which aims to bring 14,161 fiber internet connections to unserved areas by the end of 2027.
ZiTEL replaces original provider RiverStreet Networks, which was unable to finish the buildout after failing to secure remaining capital, the release said.
The Virginia Telecommunication Initiative project is state and federally funded and managed by the Department of Housing and Community Development. Commission officials expressed confidence in ZiTEL, noting the firm already serves nearby Bedford and Franklin counties, as well as Danville.
WPPDC Executive Director Michael Armbrister said he appreciates the patience and understanding shown by local partners and residents.
“With ZiTEL, we are poised to fulfill our mission of expanding broadband access across the region,” Armbrister said.
