Internet provider GoNetspeed said Wednesday that North Hamden has become the newest Connecticut community to achieve 100% fiber-optic internet coverage.

The company, which bills itself as the Northeast’s largest independent fiber internet provider, said the expansion is supported by a privately funded $6 million investment and will ultimately serve more than 8,000 residents and businesses with multi-gigabit speeds up to 6 gigabits per second.

Construction is ongoing, and GoNetspeed said the rollout will continue neighborhood by neighborhood as crews complete work.

In the meantime, residents and business owners can check availability and schedule installations through the company’s website, the provider said, adding that connections will offer symmetrical upload and download speeds, with plans ranging from 500 megabits per second to 6 gigabits per second.

“Fiber-optic internet is essential in today’s world, from powering small businesses to enabling seamless online entertainment,” GoNetspeed’s COO, Tom Perrone, said in a statement. “As we connect North Hamden customers, we are empowering thousands with more choice and more reliable multigigabit speeds designed to support the connected lives we’re living.”

The North Hamden project follows a recent $7 million build by GoNetspeed in Stratford and adds to the company’s footprint across Connecticut, where it already serves places like Bridgeport, Danbury, New Haven, and Hartford, along with more than 40 other towns, the release said.

GoNetspeed, which has also recently been active in New York, also said the investment is bringing “future-ready” infrastructure to the town, promising increased speed, reliability and performance.
