North Carolina-based Brightspeed says they have shot past their year-end goal of reaching the 1.75 million fiber-enabled premises as a company.

The internet service provider (ISP), which operates in 160 communities, reported the news this week, announcing the company has now passed 1.82 million locations with fiber.

In total, Brightspeed deployed over 17,600 miles of fiber in 2024, according to the company’s Jan. 7 release.

Brightspeed’s efforts in 2024 brought the company up to a total of over 103,000 route miles of fiber deployed, the firm’s announcement stated.

‘A milestone year’

Tom Maguire, the CEO of Brightspeed, offered comment on the accomplishment, saying the ISP made a pledge to bring transformative change when they launched in 2022.

2024 proved to be a milestone year for us,” Maguire said, according to Brightspeed’s release.

Maguire said the company is closer to achieving their overall goal of passing four million locations with fiber.

With our proven operational expertise, we are well-positioned to exceed our goal,” Maguire said.

A summary of Brightspeed’s operations claimed the ISP’s network platform is capable of serving over 6.5 million homes and businesses.

Currently, Brightspeed is building out fiber networks in 17 states, the ISP’s recent announcement stated.

Overall, Brightspeed has been awarded over $238 million in grant funding. The company also recently received their first BEAD funding award in Louisiana.

Manny Sampedro, Brightspeed’s COO, reflected on some of the challenges Brightspeed overcame in 2024 with his comments.

“Various storms and hurricanes in 2024 severely impacted many of our customers across our southern communities and our teams worked around the clock to restore their services,” Sampedro said. “Thanks to our industry-leading cloud platforms these challenges didn’t interrupt our end-to-end fiber network construction workflows helping us deliver fully connected homes and businesses to our customers — many more than we expected.”
