SPARTANSBURG, SC — AFL introduced the Fujikura 21S, a mid-range fusion splicer that uses active cladding alignment to provide excellent low-loss splice results. With moveable v-grooves, splicing errors caused by dust and other contaminants are eliminated. The compact and rugged Fujikura 21S fusion splicer also features removable sheath clamps and a large 4.7-inch LCD monitor. Additionally, the splicer is fully compatible with AFL’s FuseConnect fusion spliced field installable connectors.

“With the introduction of the Fujikura 21S fusion splicer, we have filled the gap between core alignment and fixed v-groove technologies,” commented Greg Pickeral, product manager for AFL’s fusion splicing systems. “The 21S is ideal for FTTX contractors who don’t necessarily need the accuracy level of a core alignment machine, but they appreciate a higher tolerance level for dust and contaminants.”

Accurate Fiber Alignment and Loss Estimation Calculation
The fully ruggedized chassis offers shock, dust and moisture protection and the two camera observation system delivers accurate fiber alignment and loss estimation calculations. The Fujikura 21S battery provides power for up to 200 splice cycles with application of the splice protection sleeve. Software updates are available via the Internet allowing users to quickly update their software as new splice programs become available.

Pickeral continues, “Fujikura continues to bring innovative fusion splicing technologies to the market, and with the new mid-range 21S fusion splicer, AFL is well-positioned to meet the needs of the contractor market by providing a variety of options that balance performance with cost.”

AFL operates the only authorized repair facility for Fujikura splicing products in the U.S. Technical support is available 24/7 and complimentary on-site training is available with every splicer purchased.

The Fujikura 21S fusion splicers are part of AFL’s robust fusion splicing product line for both the field (70S, 70R, 19S, 19R, 12S and 12R fusion splicers) and factory (LZM-100 laser splicing system and FSM-100 series of specialty fusion splicers) applications. AFL serves as the only distributor of Fujikura’s fusion splicers in North America.
