From municipal pioneers to digital equity champions and rapidly scaling fiber builders, the 2026 shortlist for the Broadband Communities Broadband Provider of the Year represents the best in high-speed connectivity, customer-first service, and network innovation.

The winners will be revealed live during a special awards ceremony at the conclusion of Day 1 at Broadband Communities Summit 2026. The event takes place on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. All Summit ticket holders are invited to attend the ceremony.

Here is a look at the eight shortlisted standouts competing for top honors in the 2026 Broadband Communities Awards shortlist.

Erwin Fiber (Erwin Utilities Authority)

Erwin Fiber in Tennessee demonstrated exceptional network resiliency and community leadership during extended flood recovery efforts within their footprint, maintaining reliable service for accessible customers while achieving a impressive 68% residential fiber take rate across 7,543 electric services. Beyond maintaining connectivity, the public utility says they actively supported disaster relief by conducting proactive outbound wellness calls to impacted residents and partnering to construct a temporary access road for industrial park cleanup, showcasing a deep, community-anchored commitment that extends far beyond traditional broadband delivery.

Fort Collins Connexion

Fort Collins Connexion has established itself as a national municipal broadband leader, earning the top spot in the U.S. for median upload speeds (sustaining over 300 Mbps) according to Ookla while surpassing 25,000 customers. The provider says they combine performance with accessibility by offering gigabit speeds for as low as $20/month to income-qualified families, helping earn Fort Collins the NDIA 2024 Digital Inclusion Trailblazer designation. Recognized by CNET as the best internet provider in Fort Collins for two straight years, Connexion also holds the Broadband Communities Customer Experience Award for its top-tier service.

Midco

Midco maintains its position as an upper Midwest market leader by delivering exceptional customer experiences across a massive, 21,000-mile owned and operated fiber network. UTOPIA Fiber

UTOPIA Fiber says they have continued to set the bar for open-access broadband, growing 20% year-over-year to support over 85,000 subscribers across 21 municipalities while maintaining a stellar Net Promoter Score in the high 60s. Its network delivers symmetrical speeds up to 10 Gbps for residential users and 100 Gbps for businesses via direct fiber connections, fostering ISP competition to maximize consumer choice.
