ST. PAUL, MN — An experienced network provider can quickly connect a single family home in about 8 minutes with the newly released Fibrlok Integrated network interface drive (NID) from 3M, a provider of technologies to support telecommunications networks. Each NID is equipped with a 3M Fibrlok II Splice 2529 and one attached SC/APC pigtail, factory prepped for termination of a simplex single-mode fiber drop cable.
Fibrlok Splice and Pigtail
The Fibrlok splice and pigtail are pre-mounted in a protective tray with an integrated splice activation lever. Installers simply prep the drop cable fiber, insert it into the Fibrlok splice and press the lever. These features offer a fast, secure installation that requires minimal training and tools, helping service providers deploy more broadband to residential customers faster. Field-proven since 1990, 3M Fibrlok splice products have been used in more than 10 million installations worldwide.
Lid Retention Mechanism
To boost workflow efficiencies, a lid retention mechanism holds the 3M Fibrlok Integrated NID in the open position to enable easy access during installations. It has multiple entry points and stores up to 35 feet of 4.8 mm diameter slack cable. Plus, the unit accommodates an optional second adapter, splice and pigtail for duplex home applications.
Small and compact, the 3M Fibrlok Integrated NID is designed to mount unobtrusively on the side of a single family home. The outer thermoplastic material is weather resistant with IP43 and IK06 ratings. The low-profile design is aesthetically pleasing, and the device has a place for a tamper-evident security tag to protect the connection after installation. The newly released 3M NID-FO-1724 also includes a molded insert that will accommodate fusion splicing. The device joins a full line-up of residential network solutions and FTTH products that are reliable, compact and cost-effectively deployed.
