WOW!, a prominent provider of fiber and broadband services, has announced a significant expansion of its all-fiber network in East Central Michigan, with the company planning to extend fiber to more than 17,000 homes and businesses across Genesee, Livingston, and Oakland counties starting this spring.
By early fall, a total of over 27,000 residences and commercial locations in the region will be able to access WOW!’s high-speed fiber internet, an April 30 release from the company stated.
“Fiber and broadband internet are the gold standards for affordable connectivity,” said Aaron Brace, WOW!’s chief technology and information officer. He explained that fiber services offer more reliability and speed compared to other technologies, which can be affected by environmental factors and network congestion.
In addition to expanding its fiber footprint, WOW! also revealed plans to upgrade its existing broadband infrastructure across Michigan and other U.S. markets.
This will involve enhancements to the fiber backbone, core network, and data transport systems to increase capacity and reliability while preparing for even faster speeds in the future, the company said.
WOW! will begin notifying residents and businesses in the newly activated regions, including Brighton, Genoa, Green Oak townships, Flint Township, and the cities of Brighton, Flint, Commerce, Milford, Wixom, and Lyon, as service becomes available.
In total, WOW! serves nearly two million customers nationwide, operating in 20 markets across states such as Michigan, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. With this latest expansion, WOW! continues to strengthen its foothold in the competitive broadband landscape while providing essential connectivity to communities in East Central Michigan.
