NEW YORK — If you’re one of the lucky ones who snapped up the new Apple iPad in its first days – or one of the millions still waiting for more of them to arrive in the stores – here’s something to look forward to: Time Warner Cable has launched an app for the iPad. Unlike most TV Everywhere offerings, which only include video on demand, the TWCable TV iPad app includes live linear television – or at least some channels. However, also unlike TV Everywhere, it can’t be taken on the road.
The feature, which is free, gives customers who have Expanded Basic and higher video tiers and Roadrunner or Earthlink cable Internet service the ability to watch “many of our most popular national channels” in high definition on their iPads anywhere in their own homes. Customers can navigate on their iPads with the aid of a mini-guide in the wireless home network. Additional services, including remote control functionality, VoD viewing and the ability to program the DVR will be added on a continuing basis.
“We are tremendously excited about this app, which is the first of many that will allow our customers to harness the power of their tablet-type devices. No other cable company has done this, and we are thrilled to be the first,†says Rob Marcus, president and chief operating officer for Time Warner Cable.
TWC customers can download the app from the iTunes App Store.
