Lincoln County is Maine’s first county to offer fiber internet in every municipality.
The achievement was reported on by The Lincoln County News this week, after Fidium Fiber marked the completion of its countywide build at a local community center earlier this month.
We’re finally here,” Lincoln County Commissioner Evan Goodkowsky was quoted as saying in the report. “There’s 1,000-plus households that didn’t have the internet at all a year ago, and today they do.”
Funding for the milestone has come from a mix of public and private sources, including from a $6 million broadband expansion grant and Consolidated Communications’ contribution of more than $20 million, the report stated.
Additionally, around $1.2 million from Lincoln County’s American Rescue Plan Act funds contributed to the build, the publication reported.
Lincoln County is a coastal, rural county, located along Midcoast Maine.
As of 2020, the county’s population was slightly over 35,000, according to U.S. Census data.
