Rural connectivity can be a game changer, as was highlighted in the findings of a recent survey conducted by Cox Communications.
A recent survey conducted by Cox Communications among consumers that have recently acquired the firm’s high-speed internet services in underserved locations has revealed that 86 percent of consumers surveyed reported gaining access to the internet has marked an improvement in their lives.
The survey, called the Cox Expansion Impact survey, was conducted in December 2023 and polled Cox Communications’ new market customers. A breakdown of the survey’s findings, released by Cox Communications Feb. 1, stated that the areas surveyed were previously considered underserved, a designation defined as having below 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload speeds by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
“Our survey shows that a high-speed internet connection brings optimism and economic prosperity to rural communities,” said Mark Greatrex, president of Cox Communications, according to the company’s Feb. 1 press release. “By connecting these households, residents are empowered to learn, increase their earning potential and thrive.”
The survey also found that high-speed internet access encouraged 70 percent of respondents aged 30 or below to stay in their community, with 80 percent of respondents reporting better connectivity with family and friends, according to Cox Communications.
Additional findings Cox Communications reported in the survey included an 84 percent increase in out-of-office work capabilities among respondents, and 62 percent of respondents reporting better access to remote work and online jobs.
