Spectrum Business has expanded the suite of services available to California state and local agencies through the statewide CALNET contract, adding their managed network services and unified communications to its roster of government offerings.

The changes, announced this week in a release provided to Broadband Communities, come through the California Department of Technology-administered contract that gives agencies access to pre-approved vendors and pricing for telecommunications and IT services.

Spectrum also said it will offer unified communications through a partnership with RingCentral, bringing cloud-hosted VoIP, virtual meeting rooms, messaging and collaboration tools aimed at supporting distributed workforces across state government.

“Spectrum Business is committed to providing California state and local agencies with the reliable connectivity and robust infrastructure that helps ensure that the critical services they deliver are not interrupted,” said Mark Kornegay, group vice president of vertical markets for Spectrum Business.

Additionally, the California Department of Technology leadership welcomed the expanded choices under CALNET.

“The additional solutions from Spectrum Business provide government agencies with more ways to advance technological capabilities to meet objectives more effectively,” said Victor Krause, the deputy director of information services.

The announcement highlighted that the CALNET program has long been used to streamline procurement for government entities. Managed services and cloud communications could reduce the operational burden on small or resource-constrained IT shops, Spectrum Business says.
