Charter Communications named John Lee on Tuesday as its new Head of Intelligence Ventures, a role created to build products and partnerships that use the company’s proprietary data signals and artificial intelligence.

The company said Lee will lead a dedicated team focused on developing “privacy-safe” solutions meant to deliver measurable value for marketers, agencies, platforms and enterprise customers.

“John brings deep expertise building and scaling data-driven products, platforms and organizations across media, technology and advertising,” said Rich DiGeronimo, Charter’s president of product and technology, who will be Lee’s direct supervisor.

DiGeronimo also said Lee’s work will expand how Charter leverages its data and AI capabilities to “develop new products and partnerships that drive growth and create new revenue streams.”

Lee joins Charter after founding Scout Data Advisors in 2024, an advisory firm that helped organizations use data and AI for competitive advantage.

He was previously chief data officer at NBCUniversal, where he led enterprise consumer data strategy beginning in 2021, and spent 13 years at Merkle in roles including corporate chief strategy officer.

Charter’s release notes Lee has nearly 30 years’ experience in strategy, product and data science across media, commerce, advertising and customer experience, and that he was named to the DataIQ100 in 2024.

“He will help us expand the ways we utilize our unique data signals, technology and AI capabilities,” DiGeronimo added, underscoring the commercial aim of the appointment.
