Sertex Broadband says crews have started deploying fiber optic lines for high-speed internet along the route connecting Calais to Bangor.

July 30, 2026 — Construction has begun on Segment 1 of the Maine Online Optical Statewide Enabling Network, known as MOOSE Net, Sertex Broadband has announced.
Sertex crews have started deploying fiber optic lines along the route connecting Calais to Bangor, the company said in a July 30 announcement provided to Broadband Communities.
The deployment officially mobilized July 6 when a convoy of trucks loaded with fiber reels departed from Sidney, Maine, Sertex said. These materials are essential for building out the state’s expanding middle-mile internet infrastructure, the company added.
Once completed, Sertex says Segment 1 will form a vital component of Maine’s high-capacity broadband backbone. A newly released behind-the-scenes video from Sertex highlights the coordination required to move the project into active deployment. The footage depicts staged trucks, loaded fiber reels, and field crews preparing for work along the corridor.
In March, Sertex Broadband opened a regional office in Sidney, Maine. The office supports construction of the state’s MOOSE Net fiber backbone.
The 9,600-square-foot facility, located just outside Augusta, functions as a long-term hub for engineering, construction, and logistics.
