BANGKOK, THAILAND — Planet Communications (Planetcomm) has selected the Calix E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) and T-Series optical network terminals (ONTs) for a gigabit passive optical network (GPON) residential and business fiber deployment in Thailand’s rapidly growing major cities, including Bangkok and Pattaya. Planetcomm, one of Southeast Asia’s leading telecoms companies, has ambitious plans to expand its fiber network to meet the demands of Thailand’s growing economy by reaching over 100,000 homes with fiber within the next five years and begin delivering advanced IP services in the next year.
Planetcomm with its proven knowledge, expertise and experience aims to utilize its skills to roll out fiber for a variety of different network environments, including networks for local service providers to deliver managed services such as IPTV. The company will also work with developers to offer high-end services in new housing and industrial developments within urban settings. In addition, Planetcomm can offer new services in existing residential developments by replacing cable and copper with fiber to provide high quality, ultra-fast broadband and enable IPTV, VoIP, and other advanced broadband services.
For Thailand, where current broadband adoption is growing massively quarter by quarter, it is important for companies such as Planetcomm to be able to meet the ever-growing demand for faster speeds. By utilizing the Calix E7-2, broadband services can be delivered over fiber with speeds up to one gigabit per second (Gbps), both now and in the future. By supporting any mix of GPON and point-to-point gigabit Ethernet (GE), the Calix E7-2 will give Planetcomm the flexibility to stay a step ahead of the market and deliver the best service offering for their customer base.
