Industry leaders will gather online later this month to discuss how so-called ‘Open Wi-Fi’ can transform network management for property owners, managers, and residents.

The webinar, which will be hosted by research firm Maravdeis, will feature a panel that includes names like Daniel Myers, the president of Dojo Networks, NetExperience CEO Bernard Herscovici, and Teng Tai Hsu, a product VP at Edgecore.

The technology is defined as an open-sourced, disaggregated Wi-Fi software system that provides for a multi-vendor selection of cloud controllers, according to the Telecom Infra Project.

The webinar, planned for Sept. 17, will also discuss the latest advancements in Wi-Fi technology and ongoing trends in the multifamily sector.

Maravedis Chief Analyst Adlane Fellah, who will join the panel representing Maravedis, said open Wi-Fi reduces the costs associated with connectivity because it’s an open technology.

“You can deploy multiple vendors in the same property seamlessly,” he said.

He said the technology is appealing to property owners who run tight margins.

Regarding trends that will be discussed at the webinar, Fellah said people are tending to spend more time in common areas like gyms, lobbies, pools, or barbeque areas.

“And therefore, for property owners to provide that kind of connectivity, they need professionally managed, installed, and managed Wi-Fi throughout the property,” Fellah said.

Fellah, who noted that his research is independent with unfiltered findings, said property owners are not telco experts.

“So, increasingly, what they will do is contract down to what we call a managed service provider,” he said.

With the rising costs associated with borrowing, and the sheer number of devices that exist per unit, Fellah said it is becoming increasingly clear to property owners that a rising emphasis must be placed on attracting new customers and retaining existing ones.

“One way to do that is providing them great connectivity,” Fellah said. “That has a direct impact in their net operating income, which is the financial measure for property owners to measure their profitability and, of course, for managed service providers.”

Registration for the webinar, planned for 11 a.m. Eastern Time on Sept. 17, remains open and is available here.
