Oneonta, New York is next up for GoNetspeed’s fiber internet network expansion efforts, marking their first foray into Otsego County.

GoNetspeed announced plans to bring its 100% fiber-optic network to Oneonta, marking the company’s first deployment in Otsego County. The privately funded project carries a $4.5 million price tag and aims to deliver multigigabit internet speeds and what the company calls improved reliability to local homes and businesses.
Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with the first connections possible as early as spring, the company said.
“Oneonta has been left behind for far too long, it’s time for that to change,” said Chris Brooks, GoNetspeed’s senior director of operations. “By bringing 100% fiber internet to Oneonta, we’re providing the tools needed to support growth and economic development, starting with fast, reliable connectivity and a new choice that will improve life online.”
The company also calls the build a step toward “future-ready” connectivity for the community.
GoNetspeed is expanding similar fiber projects elsewhere in New York and the Northeast, noting existing service in Buffalo, Geneva, Lockport, and Utica, among nearly 30 other New York communities. It offers symmetrical upload and download speeds on a fully fiber network, with consumer plans spanning from 500 Mbps to six gigabits, according to the announcement.
In a summary of their operations, GoNetspeed says they’re the Northeast’s largest independent fiber builder, operating in eleven states.
Since January 2021 the provider has held a partnership with Oak Hill Capital. According to GoNetspeed, the partnership serves to accelerate GoNetspeed’s expansion efforts in new service areas each year.
