Accelecom, a fiber internet provider based in Louisville, has announced a network expansion the company described as “significant” in Eastern Kentucky.
Accelecom has announced they will expand their network footprint in 16 counties across Eastern Kentucky, a portion of the state known as Appalachia that is heavily rural. As part of the network expansion, Accelecom announced the region will also have access to voice solutions upon the expansion’s completion.
The ISP, according to their Nov. 13 announcement, said the expansion has been bolstered by the company’s partnership with the Center for Rural Development (CRD). According to Accelecom, CRD recently awarded Accelecom a $30.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Appalachian Regional Commission.
“We are honored to be partnering with CRD and to be part of such a transformative initiative which aligns with our mission of connecting the unconnected and bridging the digital divide,” said Brad Kilbey, CEO of Accelecom, as part of the company’s announcment.
CRD President and CEO Lonnie Lawson said the CRD has made great strides in expanding broadband throughout Southern and Eastern Kentucky by having partnerships with companies like Accelecom.
“Infrastructure enhancement of this nature makes our region of the Commonwealth (of Kentucky) a more appealing place to live, work, and enjoy for families and businesses,” he said. “With the grant funds awarded to us by the Appalachian Regional Commission and USDA, we will be able to improve broadband access, and in some cases deliver it for the first time, to nearly a third of our Eastern Kentucky counties.”
Accelecom’s latest announcement builds off of previous momentum the company has established in Eastern Kentucky.
In October, the company announced a slew of new high-profile partnerships across the state and in august Accelecom announced an additional partnership with Mountain Comprehensive Care Center, which operates “a diverse range of facilities,” including outpatient behavioral health clinics, primary medical care clinics, therapeutic foster care offices, residential addiction treatment facilities and crisis stabilization units.
