High-speed internet deployment is expanding across the United States in 2026 as market competition grows, the Federal Communications Commission announced in its annual Section 706 Report.

The commission voted to adopt the report, concluding that advanced telecommunications capability is being deployed to all Americans in a reasonable and timely fashion. The assessment, the first under the current administration, credits regulatory policies and provider competition with driving faster connections, falling prices, and shrinking digital divides.

“President Trump’s policies are delivering great results for Americans in communities all across the country,” FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said in a statement. “The data show that speeds are up, prices are down, competition is stronger than before, and the digital divide has narrowed substantially.”

According to agency figures, 96.9% of Americans have access to 100/20 Mbps fixed terrestrial broadband, with unserved populations dropping 23% from June 2024 to June 2025. Rural areas saw a 44% reduction in unserved populations over two years, while mobile 5G now covers nearly 95% of American homes and businesses.

The FCC also highlighted its “Build America” agenda, noting that streamlined processes for transitioning off copper networks and $130 billion in approved deal-flow since January 2025 have helped spur ongoing connectivity investments.
