June 9, 2026 — Amazon has signed a multi-billion dollar deal with Corning Incorporated, a fiber-optic manufacturing company, to power their push for new data centers.

According to Amazon News and their June 8 announcement, the deal will create 1,000 highly-skilled jobs at Corning’s North Carolina facilities, along with a new workforce training program.

Matt Garman, the CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), said North Carolinians will be utilized to perform highly skilled roles in fiber optics and fusion splicing.

“These long-term investments create long-term careers and real opportunity in the communities where we operate,” Garman said June 8, according to Amazon News.

Wendell Weeks, the CEO and president of Corning, said Amazon’s investment will help the company expand production and strengthen the U.S. manufacturing base.

Meanwhile, Amazon has invested over $20 billion in North Carolina since 2010, according to Amazon News, and has created over 26,000 jobs in the state.

“This agreement with Amazon represents a significant milestone for Corning and for American manufacturing,” Weeks also said.
