Members of an electric cooperative in Georgia can now enjoy access to Conexon Connect’s latest fiber network, their fifth completed in the state.
The internet service provider (ISP), a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) brand offered by Conexon, announced the network’s completion last week, saying it was their seventh completed with an electric cooperative since 2021.
According to Conexon Connect, the now-completed network has over 1,600 miles of fiber and connects all 8,400 members of Ocilla-based Irwin EMC.
The cooperative’s members stretch across eight counties in total, the ISP’s release stated.
Randy Klindt, and founding partner and the co-CEO of Conexon said the company is proud of its role in delivering rural connectivity in Georgia.
“It has been very gratifying to see the progress in the communities Irwin EMC serves as well as in other areas throughout Georgia where Connect operates,” Klindt said.
Randy Crenshaw, the president and CEO of Irwin EMC, also had comments included in the announcement.
“It’s about improving quality of life, supporting economic growth, and ensuring no one in our region is left behind in the digital age,” Crenshaw said. “This milestone reflects our commitment to delivering not only electricity but also the tools and opportunities our members need to thrive in an increasingly connected world.”
With the network’s November completion, Conexon Connect now reaches over 50,000 customers across Georgia, the ISP’s Jan. 15 release stated.
Also in November, the ISP finished a 2,000-mile network completed in partnership with the Escambia River Electric Cooperative (EREC) in Florida.
Additionally, the company has roughly 20 FTTH projects ongoing across seven states.
