Three communities in North Carolina’s Piedmont are gaining newly acquired access to Brightspeed’s fiber optic network, the North Carolina-based ISP has announced.
In total, nearly 11,000 locations across North Wilkesboro, Eden, and Mebane are ready to be connected to Brightspeed’s network, the company’s July 1 release stated.
So far, of the roughly 30,000 locations planned for service in those communities, over 7,000 locations are already ready for service in Eden.
Meanwhile, according to Brightspeed, nearly 2,000 locations are ready for service in North Wilkesboro and over 1,400 locations are ready for service in Mebane, the ISP announced.
Brightspeed’s release also explained the importance of increasing access to high-speed broadband in North Carolina.
“According to Broadband Now, nearly 60% of people living in North Carolina can’t purchase a fiber internet plan,” their announcement additionally stated. “These homes and businesses are missing out on the kind of connectivity they need to thrive in today’s economy.”
When work is complete, around 75% of the total population in North Wilkesboro, Eden, and Mebane will have access to Brightspeed’s network, according to Brightspeed.
The ISP, headquartered in Charlotte, currently operates a growing network platform capable of serving over 7.3 million homes and businesses.
The company also employs over 4,000 employees, a summary of Brightspeed’s operations stated.
