Ongoing construction of a fiber-optic network in the Show Me State is only part of what Brightspeed hopes to build in Missouri, according to the company’s recent announcement.
The provider, which plans to reach well over 300,000 locations in the state once construction is completed, has emphasized reinvesting into Missouri communities as they continue construction.
Among the community investments from Brightspeed are naming rights to the Brightspeed Ice Park in Springfield and $600,000 to support Mizzou athletics in Columbia and Missouri State University athletics in Springfield, Brightspeed’s May 1 release explained.
Brightspeed has also pitched in $50,000 to launch the Brightspeed eSports Gaming Zone, located at the Springfield Cardinals Hammons Field ballpark, and contributed 18,000 in sponsorships of special events.
Additionally, the company says they’ve contributed $70,000 to support arts programs, and spent over $30,000 supporting local parks.
The donations also include $50,000 to support efactory in Southern Missouri.
In Columbia, Brightspeed says 37,000 locations have access to services.
Meanwhile, in Springfield, more than 86,000 homes and businesses now have access to Brightspeed’s services.
‘A catalyst for economic development’
In total, Brightspeed claims they have invested $1.1 million to support communities across the state.
Comments from CEO Tom Maguire, included in Brightspeed’s announcement, explained the company’s philosophy with giving back.

“We see broadband as a catalyst for economic development, job creation and innovation,” Maguire said. “That’s why we’re equally focused on strategic community investments that strengthen local ecosystems, drive digital inclusion, and support sustainable growth across our footprint including Missouri.”
Currently, over 200,000 Missourians now have access to Brightspeed services. The provider hopes to see that number grow to over 310,000 once their latest round of construction is complete, Brightspeed’s announcement stated.
