PERHAM, MN — Arvig, an independent telecommunications providers in Minnesota, has selected the newly introduced 844E GigaCenterand Compass software from Calix to unify its broadband experience across a variety of media types through its home state. A long-time Calix customer with multiple network technologies deployed including gigabit passive optical network (GPON), digital subscriber line (DSL), and hybrid fiber-coax (HFC), Arvig is leveraging the Ethernet-fed 844E GigaCenter and Consumer Connect software to deliver a superior broadband experience. This includes providing Carrier Class Wi-Fi and other cloud-enhanced services to fiber-connected subscribers today, with plans to expand company-wide in the future. Targeting a broadband experience that delights today’s device-enabled subscriber, Arvig will look to the combination of the 844E GigaCenter with Consumer Connect to provide powerful visibility and management of each Arvig Internet-connected subscriber device, wireless or wireline, resulting in vastly simplified support capabilities and unprecedented control of the subscriber experience.

End-to-end Access Network Visibility and Control
The 844E and Consumer Connect solution is designed for service providers with existing fiber, DSL, and cable infrastructure seeking to provide a superior first point of broadband connectivity that ties their device-enabled subscribers to cloud-enhanced services. The 844E, by subtending Ethernet customer premises equipment (CPE) including optical network terminals/optical network units (ONTs/ONUs), modems, and gateways with 10/100/1000 BASE-TX WAN interfaces, can be inserted at the subscriber edge of any of these networks types. Subscribers benefit from the power of Carrier Class Wi-Fi, which delivers unprecedented in-home wireless broadband coverage, quality of service, and speed, enabled via the industry’s latest 802.11ac 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi technology with 4×4 Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) and beamforming technologies. Arvig builds on these powerful features by leveraging Consumer Connect software to provide end-to-end access network visibility and control across all network-connected wireless and wireline devices, including remote management and virtual technician functionality that greatly enhance the subscriber experience while driving new levels of efficiency for the service provider.

“From its humble roots at East Ottertail Telephone Company in 1950 to being today one of the largest independents in the U.S., Arvig continues to push beyond conventional limits,” said John Colvin, senior vice president of North American sales at Calix. “Arvig was one of the first service providers in the U.S. to deliver residential fiber services nearly 20 years ago, redefining the service envelope forever for independent wireline operators. Now, as they push into Carrier Class Wi-Fi and cloud-enhanced services, they are again setting the broadband experience bar at an entirely new level — one that encompasses both wireless and wireline services and can be enjoyed by all of their subscribers.”
