The organization responsible for the statewide middle-mile network, Alabama Fiber Network (AFN,) has been building its executive team over the past several months. Today, the AFN Board of Directors announces the election of Sheryl Kilgore as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Ms. Kilgore brings over 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Most recently, she served as CFO and Vice President of Administration at Iris Networks in Nashville, Tennessee.

“Sheryl is a leader in this industry,” said Terry Metze, CEO of AFN. “I’m grateful that she’s chosen to bring her talents here and take on this critical role.” Ms. Kilgore will lead all financial activities for the organization including funding, financial modeling, forecasting, analytics and strategic planning.

“I’m excited to be a part of this important initiative for the state of Alabama,” said Kilgore. “I’ve been fortunate to work with fiber broadband companies at various stages in their lifecycle. What we have here is a unique opportunity to provide community anchor institutions and last mile communication providers with affordable, reliable service.”

Ms. Kilgore spent 13 years of her career at USCarrier Telecom, a fiber broadband company in the state of Georgia, where she handled accounting and finance from the start-up phase all the way to acquisition.

She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Baker College and a Master’s in Business Administration from Western Governor’s University in Tennessee.
Ms. Kilgore serves as an Advisory Board Member of the CFO Leadership Council in Nashville, Tennessee.
