A provider of network test, monitoring, and assurance solutions has introduced a new platform that incorporates AI and machine learning to drive down operational costs for wireless providers, cloud service providers, and network equipment manufacturers.

The development, announced Thursday, will help labs are confront challenges like increased testing demand, and limited headcounts, VIAVI’s release stated.

Ian Langley, an SVP of VIAVI’s wireless business division, said the platform’s initial implementation “has already demonstrated significant reductions in cost per test-hour and increases in hardware utilization.”

The platform, named VAMOS, includes customizable workspaces and configurations that can streamline the testing process across organizations and lab locations, according to VIAVI’s release.

Langley also described the need for an innovative platform, such as VAMOS.

“As VIAVI works with leading labs around the globe to integrate wireless, cloud and AI, the need for automation and orchestration has never been clearer,” Langley said.

VIAVI’s announcement elaborated further on the need for the program.

“The complexity of network architectures continues to increase, as operators and equipment manufacturers investigate the next generation of technology, migrate to the cloud, and leverage AI and (machine learning),” the company’s Sept. 12 release stated. “Continuous Testing (CT) becomes ever more prevalent to provide a unifying perspective on real-world performance.”

The project that led to the creation of VAMOS, funded by the Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund, will now move to a phase that includes integration into VALOR, VIAVI’s automated lab-as-a-service for Open RAN, for cloud based, on-demand testing.

The platform, now part of VIAVI’s NITRO Wireless portfolio, can also be integrated with a third-party automation framework.

According to VIAVI, that allows the VAMOS platform “to interact with a wider range of products and existing test environments.”
