Vexus Fiber has announced construction has begun on the company’s planned 100 percent fiber-optic network in a North Texas community.

Denison, a community of roughly 24,000 residents in Grayson County, is home to a new construction project by Vexus Fiber, which said their planned fiber-optic network will reach more than 12,000 homes and businesses.

In an announcement provided to Broadband Communities, Vexus Fiber said they are privately funding the network’s construction. The company’s CEO said the announcement comes after Vexus Fiber spent over a year working with community leaders in Denison.

“We are extremely excited to announce that we’ve broken ground in Denison,” said Jim Gleason, CEO of Vexus Fiber, in comments included with the firm’s announcement. “We are building a future-proof network here that will help foster additional growth and economic development for the area.”

Director of Operations Jeff Kennaley estimated construction would be completed in 12 to 18 months, with installations beginning within 90 days.

“Texas is our home and we’re proud to bring fiber-optic internet to communities across the state,” added Kennaley. “We like to say, ‘if it ain’t Vexus, it ain’t Texas,’ because we embody everything we love about Texas and the communities we serve.”

The first areas of construction will be in Denison’s southeast, according to the announcement from Vexus Fiber.

The construction project, which is one of many ongoing by Vexus Fiber, will add about 50 jobs to the area, the company said.

Vexus Fiber, based in Lubbock, has ongoing network builds in Huntsville and Borger, Texas as well as Slidell, Louisiana and Sante Fe and Las Cruces in New Mexico, according to a summary provided by the company.

The ISP said they currently operate fiber-to-the-home networks in Lubbock, Amarillo, Wichita Falls, Abilene, Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, Tyler, San Angelo, Nacogdoches and surrounding areas in Texas, as well as Hammond, Covington, Mandeville, Lake Charles and Alexandria in Louisiana, along with Albuquerque, New Mexico.
