Students at the University of Virginia’s campus in Charlottesville can expect enhanced wireless connectivity thanks to a new collaboration between several companies, according to Comcast Business.
Comcast Business announced recently they had successfully deployed their Private Wireless Network solution at the campus.
The deployment, according to Comcast Business, is the result of a collaboration involving Druid Software Ltd., and Airspan Networks Inc., offering direct integration with cellular carriers.
“The deployment utilizes Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) Spectrum to provide high-performance cellular voice and data service in areas with high traffic and challenging indoor environments,” the recent release from Comcast Business stated.
The network will operate as a neutral host, allowing it to support multiple service providers for mobile users on campus, the release stated.
Comcast Business deployment touted as cost effective
Kelly Doney, the university’s chief information officer, hailed the deployment of the network in comments included with the provider’s announcement.
“We’re committed to providing a connected technology ecosystem that helps our students, faculty, and staff stay focused on learning, discovery and collaboration,” Doney said. “Comcast’s Private Wireless Network solution delivers exactly that – seamless, reliable connectivity and wireless services, regardless of the device or carrier being used.”
Doney also called the deployment of the network cost effective and innovative.
Benefits touted with the deployment included enterprise-grade security, scalability, and minimal disruptions, Comcast Business stated.
Scott Cohen, Executive Director, Strategic Wireless Solutions, Comcast Business, also offered comment.
“By bringing together cutting-edge private wireless technology with cellular carrier integration, we are delivering an advanced solution that enables organizations like UVA to deliver the connectivity and user experience their students, faculty, and visitors demand,” Cohen said.
