A project to bring fiber-to-the-home to residents and businesses in Santa Clara, Utah has been completed, according to UTOPIA Fiber, which is also known as the Utah Telecommunication Open Infrastructure Agency.
The completion of a fiber network that reaches more than 2,400 locations in Santa Clara, Utah has made that community the fifth Utah city to see the completion of a new fiber-optic network by UTOPIA Fiber in 2023.
UTOPIA Fiber announced the completion of their Santa Clara network in a Dec. 13 announcement, which was provided to Broadband Communities.
“We’re thrilled to expand into Washington County, solidifying our presence in southern Utah and our commitment to delivering ultra-high-speed broadband to more local communities,” said Roger Timmerman, the CEO of UTOPIA Fiber.
According to UTOPIA Fiber, the project in Santa Clara cost a total of $6.7 million to complete after work began in May of 2022, with the first customers being connected a year later, in May of 2023. The company said work on the Santa Clara network was completed by October of 2023.
UTOPIA Fiber further said their open access model is the largest of its kind in the United States.
“This approach leads to enhanced broadband access for residents while promoting service excellence and affordability,” UTOPIA Fiber’s Dec. 13 announcement stated.
In November, UTOPIA Fiber announced the completion of a nearly $6 million fiber-to-the-home network build in Cedar Hills, Utah and earlier this month UTOPIA Fiber said their citywide fiber-to-the-home project in Syracuse, Utah has connected over 12,300 residential addresses and has yielded a subscriber rate of over 15 percent thus far.
According to UTOPIA Fiber, their Syracuse project—like all other UTOPIA Fiber projects—has been funded and grown solely through subscriber revenue, the company’s recent announcements stated.
