A USDA webinar that planned to give an overview of a Rural Development’s Rural Utilities Service grant program did not go forward this week.
The webinar, which had been scheduled for Thursday at 1 p.m. Eastern time, would have covered a Notice of Funding Opportunity regarding distance learning and telemedicine (DLT) grants.
Broadband Communities became aware of the webinar’s cancellation from a reader on Friday.
“The DLT Grant Program Webinar originally scheduled for Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. EST has been cancelled,” an email update, sent Wednesday from the USDA read. “We appreciate your understanding and will continue to share future webinar opportunities as they become available.”

A scheduled webinar, intended to give an overview of a USDA Rural Development’s Rural Utilities Service grant program, did not go forward this week. This emailed cancellation notice was provided to Broadband Communities on Friday.
Application deadline fast approaches
Meanwhile, the cancellation comes as the application deadline for the Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant Program fast approaches.
Grant applications for the DLT program must be turned in by March 6, according to the program’s funding opportunity notice.
It also remains unclear if the webinar’s second scheduled date, on Feb. 6, will go forward.
A registration link provided previously for the Feb. 6 DLT webinar, however, was no longer valid as of Friday.
DLT grants, according to the USDA’s website, are part of a competitive program designed to lift up rural communities, helping them use advanced telecommunications technology.
Key priorities of the program include assisting rural communities with economic recovery and ensuring rural residents have access to all USDA Rural Development programs.
The program also has reducing climate pollution as a top priority, the agency’s website states.
The program targets rural areas with populations of under 20,000, according to the USDA.
