As spring projects pick up, Truvista Fiber is reminding homeowners that a little planning can prevent a lot of trouble, including knocking out internet for an entire block.
In observance of National Safe Digging Month this April, the regional broadband provider Truvista Fiber is urging people to contact 811 before starting any outdoor digging work, from planting trees to installing fences.
“Calling 811 before you dig is free, easy and helps keep your services running without interruption,” said Mike Petty, Truvista Fiber’s chief operations officer. He added that the step also protects safety, property and “your relationship with your neighbors,” noting that no one is happy when everyday connectivity is disrupted.
Truvista says even small jobs can damage buried lines and that homeowners should request utility locates at least three business days in advance. The company works with state 811 services; once a request is submitted, professional locators mark the approximate locations of underground utilities so residents can dig safely. The warning covers not only fiber but also electric, gas, and water lines.
The company also used the announcement to highlight its regional presence, describing itself as a provider of internet, voice, video and security services across South Carolina and Georgia for more than 125 years.
