MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Transition Networks, a provider of data network integration solutions, announced a 6-slot version of the company’s ION Multi-Service Integration Platform of chassis-based multi-service, media conversion system.
The new ION 6-slot chassis is the latest addition to the ION product family that includes a 19-slot chassis, a 2-slot chassis, a 1-slot chassis, and numerous media converter slide-in cards. The new chassis offers enterprises, data centers, and communication service providers (CSPs) greater flexibility to integrate copper and fiber cable plants in order to extend networks within a building, between buildings, or throughout a campus.
Flexible Conversions
Designed to accept any of the slide-in converter cards currently available in the ION family, the new chassis enables flexible conversion of a variety of network types including Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, or time division multiplexing (TDM). Fiber-optic modules support small form factor pluggable (SFP) modules for flexible deployments based on cable type and transmission distance.
Rack-mountable
The new 19-inch ION chassis is rack-mountable and only occupies 1RU of rack space allowing it to be used as a stand-alone system for low-density media conversion applications where rack space is limited. It can also be used as customer premise equipment to extend service delivery from a central office to remote locations, for example to extend Ethernet, T1 or DS-3 services.
Accepts the ION Management Module
To add to its flexibility and intelligence, the ION 6-slot chassis can also accept the ION Management Module, which communicates with individual cards in the ION chassis via the backplane. Each slide-in module for the ION Chassis has specific features and functions that can be controlled via the ION Management Module. A network administrator can securely configure, monitor and troubleshoot ION slide-in modules remotely via the ION Management Module.
“The growing bandwidth needs of CSPs and enterprises have increased the need to provide cable plant flexibility for easier upgrades to new network technology and simplified fiber/copper integration,†said Tony LeFebvre, director of product management for Transition Networks. “This new addition to our ION solution expands the whole platform’s ability to deliver the flexibility that customers need, especially at wiring closets, customer premises or other remote locations.â€
The 6-slot ION Chassis is available with redundant, hot-swappable AC or DC power supplies.
