Over 4,500 homes and businesses will have an option for fiber-optic broadband service in Spring Garden Township once a network build in the community is completed by the end of 2024.
As construction on the network continues, Glo Fiber said residents and businesses will receive advanced notice via mail of their pending internet access options, according to a recent announcement from the company.
The fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network in Spring Garden Township, now available in select neighborhoods, is enabled by Shentel’s 9,300-mile regional fiber network, according to Glo Fiber.
“For the past two years, we have been very active working with York County municipalities to bring fiber to residents and businesses,” said Chris Kyle, Vice President of Industry and Regulatory Affairs at Shentel, according to Glo Fiber’s Jan. 4 announcement. “Spring Garden Township is another key piece in our growth plan for the area.”
Shentel, which is also known as the Shenandoah Telecommunications Company, provides broadband services through fiber-optic and cable networks to customers in the Mid-Atlantic states, according to a summary published by the company. The company also maintains 220 macro cellular towers, according to the summary.
Glo Fiber, which provides internet service using XGS-PON, a 10 Gbps symmetrical technology, also offers streaming TV and digital phone service powered by Shentel, the company’s announcement said. Outside fo Pennsylvania, the firm is active in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.
In Kyle’s statements, he said municipal staff in Spring Garden Township were helpful to Shentel’s efforts in the community.
“In addition to our state-of-the-art network, we are also proud to offer customers a choice with premiere services at competitive rates,” he said.
