TDS Telecommunications has reached a milestone in Montana, announcing it has connected its 10,000th customer in the state as it ramps up an expansion of its fiber network.

The company marked the occasion at Helena’s Holter Museum of Art, where technicians completed the museum’s high-speed fiber installation and TDS presented a gift basket and a charitable donation to the institution.

Company officials said crews are extending fiber in multiple Montana cities, including Helena, Billings, Butte, Great Falls and Missoula, and announced plans to start work later this year in the Laurel and Lockwood areas.

“TDS’ all-fiber, high-speed internet network is an essential part of keeping people connected, as well as helping businesses and nonprofits like the Holter Museum,” said Drew Petersen, TDS senior vice president of corporate affairs.

TDS described its Montana network as capable of delivering speeds up to 8 gigabits for residential customers, with business connections available up to 10 gigabits. The company also promotes bundled services including a digital TV product, phone service and mobile options, and says it is making a significant capital investment in the state while supporting communities through volunteering and financial contributions.

The company, which operates in the state as TDS Metrocom LLC, was founded in 1969 and remains family-owned, according to the announcement.
