Spectrum has recently expanded its broadband services and is now offering gigabit internet to nearly 800 additional homes and small businesses in Ottawa County, Michigan.

The expansion covering areas such as Chester, Crockery, Grand Haven, and Polkton and Wright townships, according to Spectrum’s July 28 release.

The effort is also part of Spectrum’s wider multi-year rural construction initiative, backed by over $7 billion in private investment. The initiative, according to Spectrum, aims to roll out more than 100,000 miles of new fiber-optic network infrastructure.

Local officials have welcomed the expansion as a significant boost to connectivity in rural communities.

U.S. Representative John Moolenaar noted the lack of necessary infrastructure in many Michigan communities and praised Spectrum’s investment as a driver of greater economic opportunity, according to Spectrum’s announcement. Similarly, State Senator Roger Victory and State Representative Luke Meerman underscored the importance of reliable internet access for rural job providers, workers, and households in the area.

“Many Michigan communities lack necessary infrastructure to serve residents with adequate internet access at home. I am pleased to learn of Spectrum’s network expansion, which will bring much needed service to thousands of Michigan families,” Moolenaar said. “This construction is a welcome addition to the community and will provide greater economic opportunities for residents.”
