As fires continue to devastate communities in and around Los Angeles, Spectrum has announced a $2.5 million donation for fire-relief efforts.

According to Spectrum, the donation will include $500,000 in cash contributions to be split between the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region, and the California Fire Foundation.

Additionally, Spectrum’s Tuesday announcement said company, the broadband brand of Charter Communications, will commit $1 million to supporting small businesses in the Los Angeles area.

Those funds, which will offer assistance through the Spectrum Community Investment Loan Fund, will be matched by another $1 million to be spent on airtime to supporting nonprofit organizations in their relief efforts.

Spectrum’s release described Spectrum Community Investment Loan Fund in more detail.

According to Spectrum, the fund “provides loans through community development financial institutions (CDFIs) to small businesses whose goods and services meet core needs of underserved communities.”

Spectrum said they’ll also leverage some of their existing community programs, like Spectrum Community Center Assist.

That program “aims to improve the physical condition of community centers in underserved rural and urban communities, as well as support programs that provide job skills training,” according to Spectrum’s release.

Firefighters in Los Angeles are continuing to fight wildfires that have burned thousands of homes in January.

The fires, which have occurred in communities like the Palisades, are one of the most serious natural disasters in California’s history.
