A business solutions and services provider has launched a free broadband nutrition label generator to meet new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements.

A cloud-based solutions provider named Sonar Software has announced it is offering a free generator for broadband labels.

The announcement comes several months after the FCC required the implementation of Broadband Consumer Labels, known as ‘nutrition labels,’ among telecoms.

The labels began being required for all standalone home or fixed internet service or mobile broadband plans in April. According to the FCC, the labels have been designed to resemble nutrition labels that appear on food products.

Sonar’s label generator, available at the company’s website, is an “FCC compliant broadband label generator for accurate consumer information,” according to Sonar.

Ray Bixler, CEO of Sonar, said the company made the label generator available out of a belief in transparency. His comments were included in a June 19 release from Sonar about the online label generator.

“With the launch of our Free FCC Broadband Nutrition Label Generator, we are empowering both ISPs and consumers with the tools necessary to cultivate greater transparency and trust in broadband services,” he said.

The company’s announcement elaborated on Bixler’s comments.

“By providing consumers with clear and accessible information about broadband services, the Free FCC Broadband Nutrition Label Generator by Sonar aims to foster greater trust and accountability in the telecommunications industry,” Sonar’s release stated. “With the free tool, ISPs can demonstrate their commitment to transparency, while consumers can make more informed choices about their internet connectivity.”

To use the tool, users are prompted to first input their email, first name, and company name.

In April, FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said the FCC’s labeling requirement was rolled out to make it simpler for consumers to know what they’re getting from ISPs.

The labeling regulations were a manifestation of the FCC’s 2022 decision, when the commission adopted rules requiring broadband providers to display labels at points of sale.
