Toronto, Canada – GAO Tek released a palm-sized optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) for FTTx network testing. The device measures the physical characteristics of optical fiber including length, transmission loss and splice loss, and locates faults or breaks in the fiber. The compact OTDR can be employed in the manufacture, construction and maintenance of fiber optic communication systems.
This handheld OTDR, Model 6416, offers four optional wavelengths containing 1310 nm, 1550 nm, 1625 nm and 1490 nm, and provides visual fault location for testing passive optical networks. It features an extremely short event dead zone; a clear, bright, antireflective TFT LCD; fast auto measurements and simple operation. Dual communication ports support both USB and direct cable download to a PC via ActiveSync. The OTDR offers a long operating time when fully charged and provides a low-battery indication.
