As the Los Angeles area continues to reel from wildfires, Optimum and a hyperlocal news source known as News 12 have stepped up to help.

The broadband provider, a brand of Altice USA with over 4.5 million broadband customers across nearly two dozen states, announced the donation Thursday. Optimum’s donation, representing half a million dollars, is made in partnership with News 12 to assist the American Red Cross, the provider’s release stated.

The donation, according to Optimum’s announcement, will used to acquire airtime for PSAs.

Those PSAs will then support the local efforts of the American Red Cross in Southern California, Optimum’s release said.

This isn’t the first time Optimum and News 12 have worked together.

News 12, a news service that can accessed on Optimum Stream, has a New York City focus and has also partnered with Optimum on a recent effort in New York City called “Rebuilding the Bronx.”

“Optimum’s donation will help amplify the American Red Cross message, ensuring that vital information on how to support their efforts reaches as many people as possible,” the company’s announcement stated. “While Optimum does not directly serve the impacted areas, it operates in other parts of the state and is committed to raising awareness of relief efforts to rebuild the lives of those affected by these devastating wildfires.”

Telecoms respond to LA fires

Other providers have also stepped up to help in the aftermath of the L.A. County fires.

This month, Spectrum announced a $2.5 million donation for fire-relief effort.

Meanwhile, AT&T has similarly encouraged employees to contribute to foundations like the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, the Los Angeles Wildfire Recovery Fund, the California Fire Foundation, along with the American Red Cross.
