A fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) provider that champions the open-access model has announced a large network expansion that is planned to involve several Colorado communities.

Over 27,000 households and businesses in a slate of Colorado communities will be connected to an open-access fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network operated by Intrepid Fiber Networks.

Construction is already underway on the network expansion project, according to a March 5 release from Intrepid Fiber Networks that detailed the company’s efforts.

According to Intrepid Fiber Networks, the expansion efforts will occur in the communities of Louisville and Lafayette, located in southeastern Boulder County, and Westminster, located in Adams and Jefferson counties.

“Building on its success in Pueblo and Northglenn, Colorado, and the greater Minneapolis area, Intrepid Fiber is thrilled to bring symmetrical multi-gigabit Internet access to these municipalities,” the company’s announcement stated.

Jack Waters, the CEO of Intrepid Fiber Networks, said the company’s investment, which was backed by Brookfield Asset Management, represents a step forward for the company.

Comments from Waters were included in the company’s announcement.

“Our open access network, built on a secure and dependable platform, creates enhanced opportunities for Internet Service Providers, fostering competitive pricing and delivering increased value to residents,” he said. “This exciting next step in Intrepid’s Fiber’s mission to empower residents and businesses with next generation Internet marks another milestone for broadband expansion in Colorado.”

Residents and businesses in the aforementioned communities can expect to be notified in the coming weeks, Intrepid Fiber Networks’ announcement stated, with lawn signs and door hangers alerting them to upcoming construction.
