A Texas-based internet service provider (ISP) has had a busy several months in the Lone Star State, with construction occurring in four separate communities this year.

Nextlink Internet, with a headquarters in Hudson Oaks, has so far in 2025 announced construction that will reach nearly 10,000 locations.

The ISP’s 2025 activity began with announced construction in Rockdale, a small city in Milam County.

“When construction is completed, Nextlink will have deployed fiber broadband at data speeds up to symmetrical 2 gigabits per second (Gbps) to over 3,300 homes and businesses in Rockdale,” the ISP’s January announcement stated.

The following month, Nextlink announced three separate projects, one in Dublin, one in Gun Barrel City, and one in Sulphur Springs.

Sulpher Springs, in the northeast part of the state, is the largest community where Nextlink has announced construction in 2025, with a population hovering above 15,000.

There, Nextlink hopes to connect 5,000 homes and businesses.

Meanwhile, in Dublin and Gun Barrel City, the provider hopes to roughly 3,900 additional locations.

‘A rural-focused provider’

Bill Baker, Nextlink’s founder and CEO, calls the company “a rural-focused provider.”

“We are excited to be bringing broadband to areas that have gone without adequate services for far too long,” Baker said upon announcing the start of network construction in Rockdale.

In places like Sulpher Springs, Nextlink has had an ongoing presence, albeit a changing one.

“For years we’ve provided high-speed wireless internet service to the rural residents of Sulphur Springs,” Baker said in February. “So, we’re more than excited to be able to have the opportunity to bring a new choice for fiber internet to homes and businesses within the city.”

Those within communities where Nextlink is conducting expansions can pre-register for a variety of plans, according to the ISP’s website.
