ELLETTSVILLE, IN – Smithville Communications, Indiana’s largest independent telecommunications company, launched the “New Smithville”- a companywide initiative focused on establishing category leadership in high-speed fiber technology. The announcement took place at a special all-employee event at the company’s McCarty Warehouse near Ellettsville, which brought together more than 150 Smithville employees ranging from the Indianapolis area to Bloomington to French Lick.
Technology Delivery Enterprise
As confirmed by Darby McCarty, Smithville chairman and CEO, the company will strategically strengthen its focus on becoming a technology delivery enterprise, which will include the state’s fastest fiber “Big Pipe” broadband; high quality IPTV video programming; information, data and video technology services; voice; original local video content (including sports); and other communication technology and content. “Smithville Communications is rapidly moving from its former position as a regulated utility toward becoming a 21st century enterprise focused on the delivery of high-performing communications technology,” Ms. McCarty said.
The companywide effort adopted the theme of “The New Smithville – Built to Last by Design,” reflecting the company’s focus on strengthening its established position as a technology innovator and aggressively advancing the company. “Today, we truly start up the ‘New Smithville,’ a company that we will create together and a company that will be built to last,” Ms. McCarty told the more than 150 Smithville employees. “We are moving toward nothing less than category leadership – we want Smithville Communications to represent a truly premium brand that reflects our superior technology position.”
The corporate moves are expected to position Smithville to be more aggressive and lean to capture new market share in its various communications and IT markets, both existing and new. “We have a legacy of bringing strategic innovation to our markets and to providing outstanding customer service,” Ms. McCarty said. “Those two elements will be strengthened even further as we advance this company.”
Serving about 23,000 residential and business customers in southern and central Indiana, Smithville offers a range of high-speed fiber-based services, including speeds of up to 1 Gbps to consumers and 10 Gbps to large businesses and enterprise customers. The company is active with enterprise and/or residential customers in Seymour, Columbus, the greater Bloomington area, Jasper, Evansville, Lafayette, Fishers, Indianapolis, Lizton and other areas. With its ongoing build-out, the company is committed to ultimately replacing all of its remaining twisted-pair copper-based customers with fiber optics as market forces and financial conditions permit.
