AT&T and Boldyn Networks have activated cellular service for AT&T customers in the Joralemon Street subway tunnel, the companies announced in a joint release.

The move brings 5G connectivity to the 1.1‑mile underwater corridor that links Brooklyn’s Borough Hall with Manhattan’s Bowling Green.

It also represents the latest step in a broader effort to expand wireless coverage across the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) rail network.

Boldyn Networks, a neutral‑host infrastructure provider working with the MTA, said the Joralemon Street tunnel activation will be followed by service along segments of the G line.

The G line runs crosstown between Queens and Brooklyn and connects to Manhattan‑bound services.

Additionally, AT&T will be the first carrier to provide on‑air service in these tunnel sections, the release said.

The work is also part of Boldyn’s larger program to deliver uninterrupted cellular coverage across 418 miles of MTA track.

The companies noted previous deployments include the 42nd Street Shuttle.

A portion of the L line between Bedford Avenue and 1st Avenue is another previous deployment.

Cellular and Wi‑Fi are already available in underground stations systemwide.

MTA and transit advocates also framed the rollout as a response to longstanding rider demand for reliable underground connectivity. MTA leadership has emphasized the expansion is being delivered “at no cost to our riders.”

AT&T and Boldyn, meanwhile, have described the project as an infrastructure investment to meet modern commuter needs.
