Mediacom Communications said today its board has named Giuseppe B. Commisso as vice chairman and interim chief executive officer, moving him into the company’s top post just days after the death of founder and longtime CEO Rocco B. Commisso.
Giuseppe Commisso has been with the cable operator for nearly 20 years, most recently serving as group vice president of corporate finance and sitting on the company’s board.
The elder Commisso was widely credited with guiding the firm for almost five decades and shaping aspects of the regional cable industry, according to a release provided by Mediacom Communications.
Giuseppe Commisso framed his new role as both an honor and a responsibility. He said he intends to work with Mediacom’s management team to maintain service for customers and “execute on [his father’s] vision with integrity and dedication.”
The statement underlines continuity in strategy rather than a sharp break, at least for the near term, while he serves in an interim capacity.
Outside Mediacom, Giuseppe serves on the board of ACF Fiorentina, the Serie A soccer club in Florence, and brings an engineering and finance background to the job.
